AgRadiance FAQ

Frequently asked questions

About our studies and working with us.

What is agrivoltaics?

Agrivoltaics is the combined use of land for solar power and agriculture, designed so that both remain productive on the same field. It is also called agri-PV or agrophotovoltaics.

How long does a study take?

A Quick Scan takes 2 business days. A Technical Analysis gives preliminary results within 1 week and the report 2–3 weeks after we have the input data. Feasibility, Risk & Permitting is agreed per project.

What does a study cost?

Each study is quoted for your project and scope. Tell us about the project and what the results are for, and we will come back with a proposal.

Which crops can you model?

We can model more than 80 different crops: field crops, grassland and pasture, vegetables, and perennials such as olive and grapes. New crops are added to our system as projects need them: we calibrate a model for the crop before it is used in a study.

Which PV systems can you model?

Single-axis trackers, fixed-tilt, east-west, vertical bifacial and elevated systems. The light model works on the layout's own 3D geometry, so the system is modelled as designed rather than as a generic type.

Do the results show whether the design meets DIN SPEC 91434 or other national criteria?

Yes. Results are set against DIN SPEC 91434, the French framework and the Italian guidelines, with figures and tables for the permit file. The Feasibility, Risk & Permitting study adds the authority package.

What data do you need to start?

The site location or boundary as KML/KMZ, the layout, the crops, rotation and irrigation regime, and the dimensions of the farm's machinery. Soil and yield data help; without them we use SoilGrids and regional statistics.

How are the models validated?

We start from established scientific crop models that already rest on extensive field validation. We then calibrate them for agrivoltaic conditions with shade studies, published agrivoltaic field data and data from our partners, with a target error of nRMSE ≤ 0.20, and test them on sites held out of the calibration. The method page has the details.

How independent are you?

We do not sell hardware, construction or financing. Our studies are third-party assessments for developers, investors, authorities and farmers.

Where do you work?

We work globally. We have modelled projects in Germany, Italy and Moldova, and take on sites wherever they are.

In which languages do you report?

We communicate primarily in English. Reports can be delivered in other languages on request.

Working on an agrivoltaic project?

Design, permitting, due diligence or bankability: tell us where the project stands. We reply within one business day.
